This picture is about a peasant woman who is trying to cope with her job so that she can be paid, given food and have a shelter to live in. This painting was made in the 13th century. You can also see on the left, the cow is licking the calf, which is most likely for love and affection. Being a peasant in the medieval times was pretty hard. Like this woman, many peasants had to work long hours to only get a minimum wage to only supply them with necessary things that would be needed. They couldn’t afford to buy any things to pleasure them (no guilty pleasures). Certain foods like meats couldn’t be bought by peasants because they were that poor.
