It was September 11, 2002, a night Melinda and Richard had looked forward to since freshman year. Richard was turning 16 years old today, had passed his driver’s test and was driving his sweet Melinda to homecoming - music blaring, windows down and all dressed up. That was until an enormous, orange pickup truck told them other wise. Melinda was buckled in the passenger seat. All Melinda remembers is seeing a blur of orange run through the stop sign and come full speed ahead at the driver’s side door. Crash!!! Glass flying. Smoke billowing. Sirens screaming. Melinda and Richard were like Romeo and Juliet. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Peas and Carrots. The perfect couple that everyone envied. They met when they were in nursery school and dated since the 5th grade. Their families went on vacation together - safari in Kenya, the beautiful coast of California, and the many famous sights of New York City - always together. They were always loyal to one another - like a dog to its owner.

Melinda’s family was very religious, and prayed a lot. Melinda would pray when she woke up, when she came home from school, and when she went to bed. On September 22, 2002 when Melinda had just finished praying, something was incredibly strange. She spotted with her own two eyes roses, Snickers, and Richard’s lemonade.
