December 7, 1941 is a date that will forever hold a tracey memory in many people's hearts. That date is when Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan. Before it was attacked Pearl Harbor was used for coaling and repair in 1887. On 1908 naval station was established at Pearl Harbor. 1919 a drydock was added to Pearl Harbor. No one knew that Pearl Harbor was going to get attacked by Japan (Editors).
Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan had to have some thoughts on what their plan was. The Japanese thought Pearl Harbor was an easy target, because of all the people that were at Pearl Harbor (“Pearl Harbor”). The memorial is known as the USS Arizona Memorial. It is a tribute to World War II. The address of the memorial is 1 Arizona Memorial Place Honolulu, Hawaii 96818. The memorial is located where the USS Arizona battleship was sunk (“Facts”). The memorial has three levels to it and each level has a certain purpose. The first level is used as an entry/assembly. The second level is used for ceremonies and observation. The last level has a shrine room in it. The shrine has all the names of the people that died on the Arizona on a marble wall. The memorial is 184 feet long (“USS Arizona”). The Pearl Harbor memorial is one the most visited sites in Honolulu. There is about 1.8 million people that go to the memorial every year (Debra). To get into the memorial it does not cost anything, but people can get a ticket in advance. If they do get the ticket in advance, it does cost money. The people that did make it out alive went to the memorial for a service to remember those that died in the attack. Scott Swift was talking at the memorial service and said. “The hero's with us today ensured Pearl Harbor would not be the end of the story, instead of retreating from the fight, America’s Pacific feet dug in its heels.” This quote can be interpreted saying that the people fighting did not give up, instead they decided we were not going to lose. After the ceremony, Scott Swift said to remember those that died, “I would like to thank our Pearl Harbor and World War II vets who yet carry the burden and bear the scars of those fateful
