Pearl Harbor Flow Map Essay

After the date December 7, 1941, Tomi’s life took a large change. The flow map goes in chronological order starting a year and a half later after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The flow map has 3 events for the middle, beginning, and end. First of all, the first block begins on page 7, a year and a half later after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The map says, “Tomi and Billy go and see his dad’s old boat”, and I added this into my map because I believe that this is one of the main aspects that drive Tomi into wanting to bring up his boat. The next box is also on page 7 and it is about Tomi remembering when the FBI came to his house and made him kill his father’s pigeons, and them taking away Grandpa Joji. I put this into the map because I believe that was a major turning point in his life because before the bombing he was happy but now he is killing what little memory he has of his father, while his grandpa is being taken away. The final box for the beginning is on page 12 and is about Tomi thinking about bringing up his father’s boat, and I added this because it shows how he started when he was thinking about bringing …show more content…
The fourth box says, “had to get home cause islands were under martial law”, and I added this into the map because it shows what the islands are like now after the bombing. I skip later into the book at page 63 and wrote how it is about Grandpa Joji coming back after being taken away because he had a stroke while away. I added this into the map because I found this as a major event because in the story it talks about how it is rare to see anyone who is taken away to comeback, yet Grandpa Joji was able to comeback to his family. The final box for the middle is on page 152 and is about Tomi’s first attempt in bringup up the boat using rubber tubes. Even though it did 0% in bringing up the Taiyo Maru.
