For instance, Juana wants Kino to get rid of the pearl because it has turned into a burden for the family, it’s caused so many mishaps to the family. He refuses to listen to her so, she goes behind his back and dig up the pearl early in the morning. He wakes up, follows her, grabs the pearl, and: “... struck her in the face with his clenched fist...and he kicked her in the side”(Steinbeck 59). If he ever had conflict with Juana before the pearl, he would have been patient and tried to talk it out with her. He isdesperate for the pearl that he becomes oblivious. He will hurt anyone who came in his way. He stopped thinking about what is the best for his family because he was brainwashed with all the good thing the pearl will bring him. It would have brought him wealth, higher status, married license, a gun, and an education for Coyotito. In addition, after he took the pearl from Juana and abused her, he just left her there. He left her there and walked away. He never looked back once to see if she was okay. Then, a tracker followed him so: “... got his knife out and lunged at one dark figure and felt his knife go home…”(59). Before the pearl, he would have never been associated with violence. He would never ever lay a finger on anyone. He would have gave them what they wanted and walked away. Kino was never associated with violence or weapons. Lastly, this is when they are running from the trackers and are going to go to the Capital to sell the pearl. The pearl has become a sin to the family and they want to get rid of it as fast. Trackers wanted the pearl and they’re are following him. They believe coyotito is a coyote and shot it. Kino grabbed his knife and: “ The great knife swung and crunched hollowly. It bit through neck and deep into chest… He grasped the rifle even as he wrenched free his knife..He whirled and struck the head of the seated man like a melon...he threw the lever of the rifle, and then he raised the gun
