Peacekeeping In Somalia Essay

The Canadian Armed Forced members join in the United Nation peace mission. Later on, other nations such as Canada joined along to participate in the mission to bring peace to Somalia. After the Second World War, Somalia became one nation in 1960 as they were once colonies of Europe. This brought conflicts in Somalia. The civil war and famine spread out through the entire country. In the mission, hundreds of thousands had died in the war. In 1995, the peace mission was a failed. Government of Eastern Africa had collapsed causing a controversy. As Somalia was an independence country for many years. There are no effective government. It was dominated by the clans and local warlords as they were battling for powers. It resulted as a dreaded country as it spread terrors and prevented Somalis to do their daily activities. They have been living with international tensions and droughts. During the war, Somalis faced violence and tragedy. In 1992, the UN decided to form a peacekeeping mission to help bring peace and stability to the country as well as reaching out to Somalis in desperate need. Canada and other nations also took part of the mission. Before, Canadians had helped Somalia by destroyed thousands of confiscated weapons, removal of land mines and trying to relieve famine in the country.
