There, he meets an old man. The old man tries to give Dan advice about his life, but seeing as how Dan thinks he knows everything and does not need help, he does not listen. Dan leave’s the station and turns around to see the old man on the roof. Confused and amazed, Dan questions the old man on how he got up there. The old man doesn’t reply, Dan leave’s out of anger, but promises to be back to learn how he did that. Dan is completely discouraged and thinks he will never be able to compete again. Dan loses all hope when his coach cuts him from the team. At this moment Dan is at his lowest state. He Stops seeing the old man and becomes depressed and isolated. One night he travels to his colleges bell tower and climbs the stairs to the top. There he finds with his prideful alter ego. Dan remembers what the old man told him about taking out the trash, Dan and the alter ego fight one another till Dan eventually throws the alter ego off the side. Just like that, Dan wakes up in his bed back in his dorm. Feeling lighter, Dan is ready to train again. He goes back to the old man’s place and begins to train on a set the old man made when Dan was in the hospital. A couple months go by and Dan is all healed up and ready to try for nationals again. He knows he can do the triple flip with all the newly learned tricks he got from the old man. Dan is no longer prideful in himself, but prideful that he gets the chance to try again and be on this journey. “The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination.”- Peaceful Warrior.
Dan is allowed back on the team after he proves himself worthy to the coach.
He makes it to the nationals and completes the triple flip! In conclusion, Dan overcame his prideful ways and became a stronger, and better person. Dan also overcame his fears and pressed through all his changes.
