Peaceful Protests

Decent Essays
The question that we begin with is “If you wanted to protest an unfair law to help other people, what would you do?”. To me, this question has so many different answers depending on the person. When we attended the protest education assembly, my point was proven. We had a panel of two Black law enforcement officers, a youth pastor , and an angry black student that all had different stand points on how the situation should be handled. Now, back to the question, how would I handle it.
I believe that peaceful protesting is very important. I think that it is a beautiful thing for individuals that believe in something to unify in such a way. Life changing historical figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have had monumental movements with the

I believe that by using peaceful civil disobedience in protesting injustice in the world has a great impact on society. When an individual stands up for what is right such as the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it shows others that having dedication and strength in ones beliefs can change a law, a nation, and the beliefs of others. Dr. King's peaceful stance on civil rights in this nation and in the City of Birmingham made many non-believers stand up and take notice. He along with his followers were willing to suffer the consequences of civil disobedience for the good of all that had gone before them and would come after in the fight for civil rights. When Dr. King was thrown into the Birmingham Jail he was more than willing to suffer…

I believe that peaceful resistance to laws is a positive impact on a free society. America was founded on the principles of freedom of speech and the ability to speak out against injustice. While peaceful resistance If civil disobedience was a negative thing heroes such as rosa parks or Martin Luther KIng would have never accomplished there goals. The act of peaceful resistance not only enforces the right to protest but it also helps to kickstart change without the need for violence. One should note that it takes much more courage and strength of character to peacefully protest than resort to more crude methods.…

Protesting Essay People participate in protests in order to stand up for their opinions, to make society equal for all civilians, and to prove and point, and protests are effective when they are achieved with nonviolence and are nondiscriminatory. Firstly, individuals participate in protests in order to stand up for their opinions and to fight against something they personally disagree with, whether it be a law or ideology. In Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech against the Vietnam War on April 4, 1967, he states, “For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent.” MLK could not stand the Vietnam War and personally protested to try and end the suffering and death the war had brought.…

This week’s current events discussion is about Anti-Trump protests that have spread throughout the country. The main point of all four articles is that Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has spread protests across the nation starting on wednesday. On one hand I think they should be able to do whatever they think will help make a change. On the other hand I don’t agree on how far vandalizing and violence has gone. People should fight for what they believe in, personally I am anti-Trump, but I wouldn’t vandalize other people’s property or hurt anyone who supports him.…

Throughout the history of the United States, much has been accomplished through American citizens exercising their constitutional rights. There are cases of great leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who led peaceful protests against laws and policies that were both unfair and unconstitutional. King was able to unite people and successfully end laws that were unjust. While there are great examples of those who peacefully exercised their rights to assembly and free speech, there were other more extreme cases which did not end peacefully. Although we, as American citizens, have the constitutional right to stand up and exercise our first amendment rights when we deem necessary, the protections of our rights by the Constitution should, and actually do, go only so far.…

However, there are other, simpler alternatives to protesting than unlawful resistance. In the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights, it is stated that the people have the Freedom of Speech and the right “to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” In other words, there seems to be no point in causing chaos in a society by disobeying the established laws.…

My roommate and I were sitting in our room and suddenly we heard a noise from afar. The noise happened to be a “protest” or “march” for women's rights. It could be because I live 3 minutes away from downtown Saint Paul but protests and marches are nothing new to me, personally i've never doubted them plus I have participated in a few. My roommate on the other hand made a comment that has stuck with me, she says, “That's so pointless. Why protest anything?…

Too often do I hear the terms “peaceful protest”, and “peaceful resistance”, but never do I fully understand what they encompass and how they may pose a threat to or benefit our society. Starting from the beginning, our government would not have arized without the aid of rebellion in its purest form-beneficence. The founding fathers worked tirelessly to conjure a governmental system that would be favored by the majority. The only way this was conceivable was through the influence of disobedience and in this case, that type of behavior was completely and holistically “worth it”. But as one looks upon past affairs and current events, the threat of insubordination hurts more than it helps.…

The reason why I say the efforts to end racism doesn’t work is because we still have many acts of Racism today. You have white people being racist towards African Americans, then you have white people being racist towards Mexicans. You also have black people who don’t like white people, and black people who don’t like Mexicans so in honesty racism may never stop. I feel like people only dislike a race because of what somebody told them or from the bad things they see about a race because every race isn’t bad just people just a label on one race and that race is stuck with that label. Not every race is bad honest you have people in each race that will go to the end of the world for people, but the way people where raised they can’t see threw it.…
