Peaceful Place Colllage-Making Process Analysis

Peaceful Place Collage This collage-making process was new to me but very fun to do. I really liked how you could layer as many pieces of paper as you want and make so many pieces look seamless enough to look like one piece of paper. For this Peaceful Place collage, I used cardstock paper, fabric material, magazine paper, marble paper, and wood paper to get a variety of textures and colors. I used a layering technique by layering pieces of paper, making them blend together as if they were paint. I used this technique for the more detailed parts of the collage to get the intended effect. I also decided to have a lot of the college be very simple to contrast with parts like the window. I think that this collage shows my personality well and

I chose to write about Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, Falling Water. At my funeral, I want people to know that I chose this piece of art because it was how I wanted to live my life. Sturdy and firm but lost in a forest of life and nature. The architecture of the house represents the different changes in my life and how the light that shines through the house, tells a story about no matter which way I turned or how bad it was, there was always a way to see through it. The water that rushes underneath represents how I had tranquility with my life as well as almost disconnecting to the outside world.…

“I always try to make the setting fit the story I have in mind.” - Author Tony Hillerman. A Separate Peace by John Knowles is about a group of boys at an all boys boarding school called Devon during WWII and their hardships as their easy going summer session ways change into the winter war-stricken ways. The setting of the book influences many of the boys to behave differently than they would if there was no war going on. The setting is a major factor in what kind of a person someone becomes, the time of year, country or area, and the events in history that led up to the time are all big factors that change character There is no doubt that setting is a major factor and that one of the main contributions is the season and time of year change a lot of the plot line.…

In regards to Chyna Little’s Grendel art project, titled “Beauty and the Beast”, my initial impression was that the booklet was well put together and very creative. I found the project to show the main purpose of the book quite well and found it to be very interesting. My initial impression of the conversation with Chyna was also well-understood and worth while. As Chyna and I conversed, she showed a great deal of interest in showing me each and every detail of the book and gave me a good reasoning for why she chose each section. Chyna was also patient with all my questions and had logical answers for each one, along with giving me her own honest opinion on her booklet with the effort placed into it and the weaknesses she felt should be explained.…

Inspired by the children literature illustrator, Jimmy Liao, I hope to record my thoughts and materialize my idyllic sanctuary on canvases and papers. I enjoy painting fantasy landscapes with acrylic. In painting acrylic, I found the rendering of the sky most mesmerizing. I like to juxtapose the realistic object at the focal point with an abstract surrounding, like the trees and mountains in Piece 2, 4, and 5. Besides fantasy landscapes, I also like to paint objects either realistically or abstractly as shown in piece 6 and 7; in those “observations”, my main concentration is to explore the appropriate color scheme to convey my feelings towards those objects.…

I am particularly proud of the portfolio piece titled “Storyboard Photography - Model Car”. This was a very personal project to me, and I wondered how could I represent and photograph instances of the lifelong adventures I’ve had with my mother’s car. Discovering a replica model car, I realized I would be able to make sets to photograph the car’s story. This story takes place during a seasonal shift, and to show that I had to create appropriate environments. Any household resources I found were at my disposal: shaving cream and flour could appear as snow, a burning incense stick cleverly placed made the effect of smoke emerging from a crashed car, a corner in my basement looked just like a repair shop if decorated enough, and a clothes tag…

Ezra Stoller has an uncanny ability of careful attention to capture the perfect vantage point, lighting conditions and framing composition — building, or non-architectural element — as a trinity to comment on the structures. Due to this, architects would commission Stoller to “Stollerize” their buildings for his photographical technique to manifest in their architecture. Stoller’s iconic images are typically shot in crisp black-and-white to extensively define modernist architecture (in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s) and reduce the subjects to their geometric essentials. This is accompanied with the expressive massive thanks to the profound use of shadows and light to carve out the interior and exterior components that create buildings. The…

The layout of the ‘Academical Village’ of the University of Virginia was based on symmetry, which meant that the design of the West and East side of the campus was very similar. From the north, we can see the Rotunda as the focal point of the area. Each floor of the Rotunda serves different purposes; from the top, it serves as a library, lecture hall, as well as science laboratory. To the south of the Rotunda, we can find the lawn, which stretches from the Rotunda to the end of the complex. On the west and east side of the lawn, there are ten pavilions; the west side ones are odd numbered, while the eastern ones are even numbered.…
