A choice is the act of making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. The possibilities may surpass your limits and get you far in life, or cause you to feel regretful and ashamed. In “Viva La Vida” and “The Road Not Taken” each author uses choices to portray similarities to “Peace Like A River” and how bad choices can affect you.

The book uses the illustrations of bad choices and mistakes in life to demonstrate how the choices you make can determine your future. Reuben and Davy had recently connected and Davy was terrified that Reuben would spill to his family that he was near. In “Peace Like A River” Davy states, “Don’t tell Dad-And especially don’t tell Swede. Goodness sakes Reuben!” (Page 212). Davy was stuck between choosing to set himself free from running and hiding or to keep himself locked away and hidden. He chose to keep running from his mistakes instead of taking the path everyone else would take by turning himself in. In Leif Enger’s book Davy takes the path that not everyone takes, as well as In “The Road Not Taken,” he takes the road less traveled by. In “The Road Not Taken” the metaphor illustrates two challenging choices you have to decide between. The example metaphor is, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the road less traveled on and that has made all the difference,” (Stanza 4). Davy had two paths he could have taken. He took the road that was less traveled on, but in this case it was a bad choice. He could have turned himself in, but he was too scared to take the correct path. Overall it's up to humankind to decide right from wrong and be careful with the choices we make and the effects they can have on

Similarly Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" parallels the concept of gaining wisdom through conflict by portraying a protagonist who has trouble with the choices he has made about his future. The speaker of the poem who is travelling comes to a fork in the road and has to choose one of the paths to follow. This symbolises the journey of life and the decisions we are forced make on our journey. The first line of the poem " Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" tells us that the speaker has to make a decision walk down one of these roads leaving the other behind.…

Lucinda saw how vital true love and hard work are to a happy, complete life; and Jones realized the noteworthy role that music and partying plays in his life. I understand the viewpoints of Fiddler and Lucinda and agree with both of their ideals. I truly believe both characters were wonderful, amiable individuals in all aspects of their lives, yet they differ in their own unique ways. The way that Jones was content with what he had inspires me to be the same way in this world obsessed with greed. Fiddler definitely lived an easygoing, care-free life; however, Lucinda lived a stricter, uneasy life.…

The author of the previous paper notes the importance of absence of music in “The River” because it helps Tsai Ming-liang depict loneliness and nonconformity.
