In this book Sarah Byrnes shows courage by writing Eric a letter when she is trying to stay quiet even though she is at great risk. Sarah writes a heartfelt letter to Eric and she tells him some stuff she has never told anyone before(127-130). Sarah shows much courage by writing this because if her dad saw this she would have been abused to almost death. She also shows courage by just saying what she actually feels and she has never done this before, this is a very hard thing to do for people that aren't open to others. An example of courage is when Sarah gets in the car with Eric to go to Lemry’s house(147).…

In the novel we recently finished reading, Peace like a river, by Leif Enger, Reuben's dreams had a significant role in his reality, and the author used his dreams to show what may happen later on or as a way to reflect on what was currently happening in his life. Courage is one of the only things that will reveal your true character. In our society, the law enforcement and police departments show a lot of courage every day. Police officers everyday go to work in the morning without even knowing if they would come back home without being injured, but they still go because they want to protect the society. This is courageous because they go to work to protect everyone, even though they know that there is a chance where they could get injured or possibly get killed. Not only real people are courageous, but characters in books can also show a tremendous amount of bravery.…
Independence means something to people, usually it comes to them making their own decisions and able to do activities on their own without relying on others to do the work for them.
