Pdo Reflection

Looking back at my experience, I still remember clearly PDOs and the overwhelming feelings that came with it. As a teenager, the responsibility you will have to carry as an exchange student for the next year or so, can be sometime a heavy burden if you don’t know what you engaged in, and that’s why the role of a mentor/ team leader is important. Because they guide us through what should we do, rules and expectations, and most importantly make us more excited about this year by hearing about their personal experience.I’m still thankful to this day for all the help and support I got from the team leaders in my PDO, and how much that helped me to better enjoy my year, now, it’s my time to payback the YES program for all the positive change it

One of my most recent challenges that occurred this past year was taking on a regional level role as South Central Region Z-HOPE Coordinator. Before this appointment I have only served on a local level, only serving as Tamias for Psi Alpha Zeta Chapter since graduation in 2011. This experience has helped me grow as a leader in multiple ways. Since taking this role I am more aware of what I do well and what I do not too well. I am investing more time in my strengths and seeking guidance, from past Z-HOPE Coordinators, in my weak areas.…

This is a very interesting topic for me and a very personal one as well. It hits home for those that are dear to me that there are so many challenges that we have to face on a daily basis regarding the issue of what is legal, moral, and thereof. I think that throughout the United States and across the country that there are many government officials and administration that are faced with the decisions of having to change many rules, policies, and regulation to accommodate the new law that grant same sex individuals and couples the same equal rights and protection to be in a union or marriage like that of the traditional marriage of that of a man and woman. There has been many challenges from many interest groups that was either against or for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).…

As I stepped through the doors at my first PFO retreat, I immediately felt inadequate. I was surrounded by talented, compassionate, articulate teens, but I just felt like a normal 15 year old. I remember thinking that I must've gotten in by accident, because there was no way that I measured up to what was expected of a PFO teen. The next day, my entire perspective changed. Throughout the retreat, people would write comments of gratitude about others on sticky notes and leave them on a board in the front of the room.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

As a possible incoming student, who not only desires to, but needs to learn and attend a favorable campus, the things that I can offer and/or bring are my experiences and skills. I will try to help enrich the campus community as much as I can. Although, my experiences and interests may be easily overlooked by some because of the simple fact that I am “only seventeen,” and that everyone is still continuously evolving. I believe I can still bring something to only help enrich the community. A particular experience that I know differentiates from others is, being Hmong.…

I decided that I would take leadership roles throughout high school in order to help serve the less fortunate. KEY Club, a service and fundraising club, became my focus, and I travelled up the ranks to become the school’s external affairs manager and the service committee chair of the Eastern Canada District. As I introduced more extra-curricular activities into my life, organization became more important -- and I was shocked to see how much it helped me save…

Based on the video Ms. Swartz deliberately groups students in a particular way to ensure ZPD. She stated that in every group she has someone who is a strong A-B student who can communicate well because sometimes she will have a A-B student who can not explain things very well. By placing someone that is an A-B student who can communicate well in a group she is ensuring that others in the group have someone who can aid them. ZPD represents the students who almost have a grasp on a concept but might need an extra push to fully understand the concept. Ms. Swartz is fully aware of this concept she demonstrates this in how she groups her students.…

At Mid-East it is very important to reflect on the program as a class. Each class that graduates is contacted by their program instructor. This happens about six to nine months after they have graduated. At first I personally didn’t think much of it and thought it was just another task to do, not anymore. I now take this very seriously and also bring it up to my students during the time they are in the program.…

Recently, I had a learning experience from my internship that will help me even more in my pursuit in the field of social work. The day that this event occurred it helped me be able to be the teacher rather than the student to my intern advisors. Being that Voyage house is a support program for clients, we help to provide them with the necessities of food and household items from those that have no income. Therefore, we take them to Walmart and give them a budget that they are able to work with since they only need to provide resources just for them to living off. This was on a Friday where I had to miss group because I had something to do at school that morning; therefore, I just met my intern advisor later that day at Walmart.…
