Paying college athletes is a very controversial topic in today’s generation. It has been an ongoing topic since the early 1900s. The idea of this dates back to what was the first collegiate competition between Harvard and Yale in a event called regatta, the racing of boats or yachts. Paying college athletes should be something that colleges take into consideration for the students that give their time to dedicate themselves to their team and coaches to be the best at the sport they play. Paying college athletes should be a must because it is like a job to students. It takes a lot of effort and time to play sports in college and depending on the sport it can wear on their bodies and do damage to them, they sometimes have to miss family occasions to play the sport, and the coaches in the sports expect the best out of the player by showing up on time, early in the mornings when they have meetings before the students’ classes, meetings after classes, and even practices after classes until late at night, and also their sleep habits are awful. Students have to give so much of their time when they are an athlete in college that on some occasions they have to be late to …show more content…
These bring in an extraordinary amount of money to the NCAA simply because of the fact football is the most watched sport these days and the TV subscribers are sky high during the playoffs. This alone should be an eye opener as to why the NCAA should pay these college athletes to play sports during their time of earning an education for their future lives. Not everyone has the ability to come out of college and go pro in whatever sport they play, a very select few can come out and go to the big leagues to make the big bucks.
