Payday Loan

Some say money makes the world go round, I believe this statement to be accurate with a simple glance at the way in which our economy operates on a day to day basis. However money is a limited resource and it is difficult for many to survive on low incomes, high prices of goods and the other things that are necessary for life's demands. Creating a payday loan system companies such as: Cash Net USA, Advance America and Check City have seemingly exploited of the lower and middle class American people by taking advantage of their lack of funds.
Is the way that payday loan companies go about their methods of “helping” the American people morally problematic? Throughout this response I will give my personal opinion on the matter but also offer

They ignore vast inequalities of wealth in this nation, with the top 20% holding over 80% of America's wealth. Another factor that they disregard is the conditions that cause the needy to take these loans. The heater needs to be run, the electricity needs to be on, and the list of things that require money is endless. Lower income families have a more difficult time paying for the expenses which in return forces them to take out a loan.
On the other hand, the Neo Marxian view is basically the opposite of the Neoclassical in that payday loans do exploit the people who use them. I agree with them on their opinion that these loans gives the wealthy assets that translate into power to control the ones who do not have the wealth. It is fairly clear to see that this is happening with the way I described previously in this response on how people get trapped into a never ending cycle of taking out payday loans. They also believe that payday loans take advantage of the vulnerability that these people have in their desperate need for money.
In conclusion, I do see a moral issue with what companies are doing with payday loans. I would have to agree with the Neo Marxian view more than the Neoclassical because of the way that the neoclassicals ignore the important details of why people are compelled to take these loans

In an interview with Butler in 1999,she explains why she wrote about a company like KSF. She is speculating what might happen if poor minorities and immigrants in the United States continue to be pushed to the margins of society. “I wrote the way I did about education in the two novels because I kept hearing or reading such contempt for public education, and at the same time such enthusiasm for the building and filling of more and more prisons”. Hi Melinda, Great post describing the bailout issues and I particular like the example you used with your step son accepting $20 from parents when going to the mall. I agree that companies should take responsibility and Feds should not fear that economy is going to collapse without stimulus package. The bailouts does not fix the root cause of the problem, companies are taking higher risk and as you mention financial scandals like Enron and…

Most of the payday loan lenders do not pay attention to the credit scores of their borrowers. You will just have to have a stable job and make enough per month to repay the loan on your next payday. Therefore your monthly salary has to be more than your borrowed amount plus the interest rate. On top of that all payday loans have really quick approval processes and the money is delivered very quickly as well.…

In Joseph E. Stiglitz's essay Rent Seeking and the Making of an Unequal Society, he talks about inequality and how drastic it has become. Inequality in society was made by the people that benefited from it. The inequality level in America isn't normal compared to other countries and even the past in America it is an unnatural inequality. This is very unusual even in a recession, the economy weakens and wages drop which causes the price of goods to drop. But now even with the wage drop, many firms are still making good money.…

However, during this time period of drastic change in America, different economic classes like farmers, new immigrants and the emerging middle class began to play vastly different roles with regards to work, and at the same time began to obtain new identities in the workplace.…

Welfare recipients are misusing the money for irrelevant things, like drugs, that is why there should be required drug tests implemented for recipients to continue to receive these benefits. The majority of welfare recipients are not motivated.…
