Pawnee Bill

On November 14, my husband and I drove out to Pawnee to visit the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum. This site is considered to be a significant site because it includes Pawnee Bill’s ranch, his house, the site of his Wild West shows, and a museum over his life and career. If I was an Oklahoma History teacher in secondary school I would use this site as a field trip while talking about Pawnee Bill and his career. It would also be a good site to use while covering ranches, and how they worked. It would enhance the class by giving them a visual and fun way to learn about Pawnee Bill. The exhibits in the museum were both informative and attractive. I had so much fun walking through the museum and learning about not only Pawnee Bill, but also Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, the Wild West shows, how ranches operated, the tools that were used by the people that lived and worked there. There was a small version of what the Wild West show would have looked like during one of their busiest times, and it really put into perspective what the ranch would have looked like at the time, filled with tents, wagons, and horses. The blacksmith shop and the little cabin were by far my favorite. The little cabin looked exactly like one would look in during the 19th century. There was a small table and stove, along with two small bedrooms. Each had a bed and window, along with a little washbasin. The blacksmith shop was one of the most interactive parts of the ranch. They had an actual blacksmith, and we got to watch him build a stand for a campfire. The blacksmith even had one of the boys in the crowd assist him in using all of the tools and equipment. There was also a pasture that held buffalo, Clydesdales, and longhorn cattle, where we were allowed to drive through to get a closer look at the
