The students and faculty of the Texas Tech University Kinesiology and Sports Management graduate program will host “Paw-A-Thon”, a 5k race where participants bring their dogs. The event will be held at 9 a.m. April 30th at the Kinesiology and Sports Management building.
Angelica Garcia, the general manager of Paw-A-Thon, was working on a group project in a financial class when the idea for Paw-A-Thon came up. Her professor instructed the class to come up with an athletic related event they could run themselves.

While on Facebook, Hart saw on her feed that some of her friends were attending the “Paw-A-Thon” event. She said this was how she learned about the event.
“I didn’t know what it was so I started reading about it and thought it seemed like a fun thing to do,” Hart said. “Plus, the kinesiology and sport management program is the one doing the whole thing, and so I feel like I’m getting involved with my major.”
According to the event’s Facebook page, benefits from the event will go to the Haven Animal Shelter and Tech’s kinesiology and sport management department.
Also, Hart thought it was a good idea to get the Haven Animal Shelter involved with the event.
“I think it’s really cool how the proceeds are going to a local shelter,” Hart said. “It not only gets Tech involved, but the local community as well.”
With four dogs to choose from, Hart said she wanted to bring her Boston terrier, Junior.
“My family loves dogs and I feel bad only bringing one of ours but he loves to get out,” Hart said. “He’s the most social and he loves doing things in public.”
