Describe the city or town that you live in. Discuss how it has grown in the last decade.
Paulding County was founded on December 3, 1832 as Georgia’s 89th county (History). Paulding County has a lot of history. In 1832, Paulding County was separated into 40-acre “gold lots” during the Gold Lottery. People came from all around to seek gold, but many were unsuccessful. After the Gold Lottery some people remained in Paulding for agricultural purposes. Farming became the main occupation for Paulding County (History). Primary crops grown were cotton, corn, and wheat.
Paulding County is well known for its role in the Civil War. In 1864, Union General William T. Sherman planned to take over Dallas to control the traffic on the county roads that led to larger cities such as Atlanta and Kennesaw (History). Confederate General Joseph Johnson commanded his troops to stop the Union from the attempted take-over. Three battles took place at New Hope Church, Dallas, and Pickett’s Mill. The battles delayed Sherman’s attack on Atlanta (History). Today, Pickett’s Mill is one of the best preserved Civil …show more content…
Construction of the Southern and Seaboard Railroads began in 1882 (History). Paulding County was also introduced to the textile industry at this time. Both industries played a great role in the growth of the county (History).
Today, Paulding County is a bustling city. The population of Paulding County has doubled over the past decade to over 150,000 residents (Our Community). Paulding County's total employment has risen from 3,016 in 1969 to 37,291 in 2015 (Paulding County vs. Georgia). Farmers have remained (like my grandpa) and the beautiful scenery has been preserved as well. Paulding County is home to more than 900 acres of beautiful parkland (Our Community). Paulding County also has 38 lakes in which you can fish, canoe, or kayak. Though Paulding County has grown, it still has the small town feel here in
