I am Paul Tibbets. I was born on February 23, 1915, in Quincy Illinois, the son of Enola and Paul Tibbets. I was raised in Iowa. In 1927, we moved to Florida. I was offered a ride with a sales promoter. I knew right then I was going to be a pilot. I later attended the great University of Florida-Gainesville and began taking flight lessons. While in my Sophomore year my parents my parents strongly advised me to transfer to the University of Cincinnati to pursue pre-med school. I ended up granting their wish and transferred. They wanted me to become a doctor. I was determined I was going to be a pilot.
While I knew I was not going to be a doctor, I enlisted as a flying cadet in the United States Air Force in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. I was ordered
