Growing up in Los Angeles, California, Paul Stevens (65) has lived quite an eventful life. From living with his mother and grandmother in a compact suburban apartment, to retiring at age 65 from being a very successful pilot for Delta Airlines and going on to live peacefully in his lakeside home in Euless, Texas with his wife, Connie Stevens (67). However getting to that point was no easy task and no story of success is complete without the occasional adversity along the way. Back in Los Angeles, Stevens was born on October 4th, 1951. Being raised by his mother, his grandmother also lived with them to help take care of him while his mother was at work. However he didn’t spend all of his time at home as he could usually be found playing around at the beach with his best friend, Don Helfenstein, or participating in numerous sports such as beach volleyball, baseball, football and of course, surfing. He always encouraged them to be involved and do their best, academically and socially, which they did. Michelle, his oldest step daughter, was an all A student who was on the drill team and was Miss Junior High along with Miss High School. His youngest, Cheri, was a student trainor on the football team. Even today he says they have achieved all he has ever wanted them to achieve, and more. As for him and Connie, they frequently traveled, as they still do even more frequently today, and joined different clubs such as the Shelby Car Club. It was not until what he calls his “mid-life crisis” that this happy life he had created came crashing down. At age 39, Stevens experienced a blow to the head that left him on disability for 4.5 years; 4.5 years in which he couldn’t fly.
