Paul Shortt's Intention To Protest Analysis

As it was mentioned, activists are people who seek to create a positive change. In the presentation, the artist Paul Shortt mentions that protest is what differentiates an artist from an activist. In my opinion, being an activist has to do more with purpose, in this case transforming society for the better, and less with the depth of involvement someone can have in the process of change. If an artist is consciously trying to evoke a certain response from the public, specifically in relation to socio-economic and political issues, then they are activists. I can understand that it might not be Paul Shortt’s main intention to protest, but still with his art he invites to dialogue and raises awareness on certain problems, which are the first steps

The civil disobedience action was the community protesting a mass demonstration about two Sacramento police officer killing an unarmed father of two, while not listening to city law enforcement on the five freeways and in front of the Golden One Center. The violation of the protestors of not listening to law enforcement was to address justice issues and societal change of future shooting of unarmed African American males. I believe deviance is needed at times to get a point across, thus taking a step to push for change in a good way. The second sociological concept I will use to analyze the protest is collective conscience. Collective conscience is a view of the society from the functionalist perspective.…

According to the text, it alleged that there was a slave named Dred Scott, who was apparently born in Southhampton County, Va around 1790. Scott was a slave, and the property of the Peter Blow family. Furthermore, the text suggest that Dred Scott was passed around to several different slave owners, one of which lived in territories that prohibited slave ownership. For example, the text points out that Scott Dred was sold to John Emerson who worked throughout Illinois, and the Wisconsin territories, under which the Northwest Ordinances prohibited slavery.…

The Emancipation Proclamation legally freed the slaves in states that were not under Union control as a reaction to the Dred Scott case. Lincoln’s motive behind the issuance of the Proclamation remains one of the most debated topic of the president. In the famous Lincoln-Douglass Debate in Charleston (National Historic SiteIllinois), Lincoln claimed that he “as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race” when asked to talk about his opinion about the equality between the black people and the white people. This led to the theory that Lincoln was a white-suprematist in nature, but still signed the Proclamation in order to win the war.…

A 7-2 majority ruled on the case of Dred Scott v. Sanford, citing a wide variety of constitutional grounds for support. One of the weakest arguments of this case was the argument for Dred Scott not being able to be classified as a citizen. As a result, he was not subject to the full right of freedoms and due process of law. Taney wrote that slaves lacked sovereignty and that they were not intended to be included by the framers of the Constitution (5). He writes that slaves were actually, “intended to be excluded from it.”…

He refers to all of this to prove one thing, activism is meticulously organized and has a clear hierarchy. This is a stark difference between traditional activism and Social media activism. He states that social media serves as a network and while it is effective in certain areas its not as effective in others, one of them being high-risk life altering activism. He uses car companies as an example of this, while a network is useful in organizing suppliers, its not as useful in designing cars, he states that the reason for this is that when there’s no clear sign of authority consensus and goal setting is almost impossible to reach, which applies to activism. He proceeds to use The Palestine Liberation Organization as an example of…

History proves that the only method that society can resort to is revolution which must independent from the oppressors. Although Hardt’s vision of revolution is interesting, it is not the method that works. Radical change means that the prophecy of illusionary change will cease to repeat itself. “Before democracy chattel slavery was born”, considering that the foundations of America was in fact racist, it means that abolishing its very foundations is the only option for true change. Racism did not dissolve, it merely transformed itself to an illusionary idea of equality.…

Introduction People make protests with their voice and think that they are making a change to the world. Yes, it sometimes does make a change, but why don’t not take action and try doing, instead of speaking. To be honest, it is going to take you a long time to just speak your opinion and have it be done. That's not how the world works. Some people think that the Boston Tea Party was an actual tea party where you, sat down and drank tea.…

An important topic within metaphysical philosophy is theodicy, which works to justify the existence of God even though evil exists. John Hick and Steven Cahn in their respective works, “The Problem of Evil” and “The Problem of Good”, provide valid arguments for the existence and probable non existence of God in the presence of good and evil. Through the reversal of Hick’s argument, I feel that Cahn establishes the illogic behind Hick’s view and proves that because both good and bad will always exist within the world, based on Hick’s reasoning and premises, it is likely that soul making and God do not exist to serve the greater good. In order for one to truly understand Hick’s missteps in logic, first you must understand what he is trying…

What is protest music? In general, most people would say protest music is songs connected to current or previous events. According to Salamishah Tillet, “Young musicians, some famous, others grassroots, are finding their role in today’s social movements through a simultaneous revival and redefinition of the protest song tradition.” I agree with Salamishah Tillet that musicians are trying to find their role in life by exploring life.
