There are many differences between “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the actual history. In the legend of Paul Revere, Revere was a solo action hero meaning that he was the only one who warned everyone that the British were coming. However, he didn’t work alone. William Dawes also rode on horseback but, he went through a different route because there was a high risk that one of them would be captured. The myth says that Paul Revere planned alone, yet, in reality the leader of this plan was Dr. Joseph Warren. Warren knew that the British were coming to attack because he spied on the British through his medical practice. Another myth included in the poem is, that Paul Revere crossed the Charles River without any

In the wood carving by Paul Revere, I immediately noticed the dramatic scene on the left being carried out by the colonists. The apparent aggressor to the victims, is the British soldiers in red, towards the right. I believe Paul solely carved this to persuade loyalists to be revolutionaries, and to fight for a governmental change. It appealed indefinitely towards neutral audiences (as well as the loyalists who were previously mentioned).…

One big inaccuracy was the number of people with Revere. The riders with Revere in the Longfellows poem was just Revere, but there was actually two other riders with Revere. In Johnson's article, he states “Longfellow did not mention Dawes and Prescott-two other riders on the same mission that night in 1775. Also, Ames article states, “On the evening of April 18, 1775, Revere was sent to Lexington to warn the American leader Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were on their way to arrest them and seize weapons being stored in Concord.” Longfellow's poem states that it was just Revere on the mission when it was…

Without his warning, the British would have had the element of surprise, and the outcome of the war might have been very different. The message Revere spread, which is described in the poem as “A cry of defiance and not of fear,”(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, stanza 14, line 4) shows that the spark of freedom and patriotism burned in the hearts of the people even when America was still loyal to England. This is important because Paul Revere’s ride helped kindle the spark in the hearts of the people, even though the country was still predominantly British and loyal to the British crown. The new spark in patriotism showed their British oppressors that the Americans were ready to be their own nation. The spark is an important metaphor in “Paul Revere's Ride” and shows a lasting patriotism in America.…

“Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow communicates the courage of a country in the face of war by telling the story of a brave patriot named Paul Revere. The structure of the poem helps develop this central idea through repetition and a regular rhyme. First, the first line of each of the first three stanzas establishes the setting of the story and, more importantly, builds tension. Each stanza describes the new town Paul Revere rides into and describes his experience there. Longfellow changes the time on the clock by one hour each time, and this emphasizes the importance of time and the urgency of Paul Revere’s ride.…

An evidence from the poem is, “And beneath him, tranquil and broad and deep, Is the Mystic, meeting the ocean tides; And under the alders that skirt its edge, Now soft on the sand, now loud on the ledge, Is heard the tramp of his steed as he rides.” Even though Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was not there at that moment, he used those words to describe the setting behind Paul Revere when he was riding his horse, referring to other primary sources. This kind of descriptive setting made Paul Revere standing out like the main character, as if he was stunning. Consequently, the poem is not a reliable source since it is a biased source and a poem that uses descriptive figurative languages.…

The last two verses of the poem say, “Let the far and the near,-all unite with a cheer / In defense of our Liberty Tree.” This conveys that even at this point, the colonists were ready to gather up with others to go against the higher powers. In defense of their liberty, the colonists knew that they had to unite to be able to raise their tree back from the ground because it would be the only way for them to succeed in their battle to gain freedom.
