This quote shows author's purpose because rhyming entertains the reader. PBS wrote in “The Other Riders” it states, “ Late on night of April 18, 1775” (PBS 141). This shows the authors propose it show a historical date because its informational.…

The poems “Facing West From California’s Shores” and “A Noiseless Patient Spider”, written by Walt Whitman, are very alike but also quite different. They are alike because in both of these poems, Whitman is searching for the meaning in life. They are different only because in one poem, Whitman specifically talks about his life while the other poem compares his life to the spider’s life. In the poem “Facing West From California’s Shores”, Whitman is searching for the meaning in life by writing, “Inquiring -” and “But where is what I started for, so long ago?…

The two poems that I chose to compare are both written by Emily Dickenson; the first poem is “A Narrow Fellow in the Grass,” and the second is “[The Brain- is wider than the Sky].” These poems were written 4 years apart, the first coming in 1862, and the second was written in 1866. While we read “[The Brain- is wider than the Sky]” for class, we did not read “A Narrow Fellow in the Grass.” These two poems are very different, while at the same time they are very similar; Emily Dickenson has a special way of formatting her poetry, as well as using imagery to express her thoughts, to inspire her readers. Her poems are known to be very inspiring and she set the stage for poets to come, as she was one of the first women in American poetry.…

On the other hand, London by william Wordsworth focuses more on the people, society and dark corruption of the city; this fits into the more radical and change side of romanticism. Its written as if a voice is walking London, describing the tragedies they are seeing such as ‘blackening churches’ and ‘infant’s cry of fear’.…
