Paul Giganti: A Career As A Writer

Improved Essays
I cannot believe that naïve Paul Giganti from fifteen weeks ago only thought about using his history minor towards a career as a historian or archeologist! Looking back, the only part of my former reflection which still echoes is my confidence in the importance of history to society. This history careers course has opened my eyes up to understanding who I am as an individual as well as the wider range of possibilities for a history career. So within this reflection essay I will explain how the impact of this semester long course persuaded me to reconsider using my degree to become either a legal attorney, an educator, or business associates. My journey to finding out what I wanted to do with my degree began with the second week of class. Which just happened to go in depth on historians as educators as the first suggested career field for a history degree. I was …show more content…
Activities like the daily informal journal entries at the beginnings of class generally over retained learning in previous readings or lectures. The two activities which stood out the most to me during the historians as educator’s week was the sample lesson plan assignment and the elementary school teacher who came in to speak to us. Before experiencing this sample lesson plan assignment I had no idea how much creativity and organization went into the planning of curriculums made by teachers. I enjoyed how the assignment also relied solely on my planning instead of using a standardized routine of work. In recollection, this assignment was my favorite out of all the others and my views on history

There are a number of reasons why I want to pursue a teaching credential at California State University, Long Beach. First, some of the most enjoyable times in my life have occurred when I have been teaching. My first teaching experience was when I was twenty as a camp counselor. It was a camp for junior high school students and I got to teach them in groups and one on one with each student. I was in locum parentis for one week with each group of junior high school students.…

For four years during my undergrad I had the privilege of studying Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. When I started college, I believed that I would be pursuing a career in the museum world as a curator or in museum administration. However, my interests in the justice system along with my background in Anthropology conflicted with that goal of working in a museum setting until I found that I could have a career involving both of my areas of study. My experiences both personal and academic have made me consider a different career choice which allows me to work for the government with my Anthropology background as a forensic anthropologist. Growing up in a small town located in central Minnesota was very boring and there was not much to do for fun.…

History involves so many aspects of opportunities to learn and grow from, as a person. All my life, I have grown up in historic homes, wandered through antique stores with my mother, and spent weekends touring historical sites. Leave me in a museum with artifacts, informational videos, and astonishing aspects of the past and I will be the definition of content. My passion for the past has always been within me, as my Grandma has always referred to me as an old soul. Archeology has peaked my interest as well, and I hope to pursue that profession.…

I excelled at math and science.…

I would make changes to the oral history project to fit the needs and skills of second graders. For my activity I would have students interview one another. By interviewing each other about their own life experiences, families, neighborhoods, and communities students will expand their understanding of the world around them and develop social skills. I would then have students make posters of the student they interviewed. They can use photos, artifacts, or any other materials they want to use for the project.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
