The story The Alchemist by Paul Coehlo displays the theme that it is important for people to fulfill their personal legends. Throughout the story we come across people that have become complacent with their lives, often in result of fear. The reason I drew a crustal cup is because it represents the crystal merchant and his shop. The crystal merchant, like many of the characters, was satisfied with never changing his life or shop. Santiago doesn’t understand at first why the merchant is hesitant to any small alterations. But later the merchant describes how he dreams of the mecca but knows he will never go.
