Paul Cézanne was born in the generation of Impressionism; a style of art he became very familiar with as he became one within his career. He studied and explored the interrelationships and properties of line, plane, and color. He stepped out of the shoes of Impressionists and specifically wanted to focus on more than just the subject matter and covering light and atmosphere. He made multiple goals that he set out to accomplish while branching out to the style of Post-Impressionist. In conclusion, he was completely successful as he was able to replicate what his influences had done, create depth within a painting. For him, however, it was achieved with only color and use of brushstrokes. After all, he was also referred as the first Modernist painter of his time for his focus on forms of nature that were seen as basic to art while painting as a Post-Impressionist. With Cézanne’s contributions, Modernism began to fully develop and explains why he was one of those artists to contribute much more than just paintings to a style.
