Patty Wagenknecht Research Paper

Reading is the foundation of everything “Whether you want to be a reading teacher or not you’re going to be one” says Patty Wagenknecht. She was a language arts teacher for 30 years after that she was on the School Board for 12 years. Patty says she was all over the Pettis county school district, at one point she was in charge of going around making sure that all the teachers had everything they needed to teach appropriately. She would go every summer to find some sort of class or seminar to further her education and get up to date information. “You never really have a summer” Patty explains after asking about furthering her education. Her favorite class was “The one I was teaching that year” says Patty she decided she really enjoyed 1st graders. She thought the way they thought was just simply amazing. She would have to be very interactive with the 1st graders whether that was grabbing theirs hands and placing pencils the correct way or moving them to a better position. She just wouldn’t be able to touch the kids now. “If I could touch them, I could teach them” Says Patty if I was currently teaching I would end up sued or lose my job, all because I had a different way of teaching. She wouldn’t really have to use discipline with the kids she would just be honest with them, if they go on her nerves or just frustrated her she would let them know.
