Patty Hearst Kidnapping

Patricia Campbell Hearst was a rich daughter who got abducted by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) when she was only 19 Years old. She was highly intelligent, attended college, and is now a actress. Always remained in Private Schools, four to be exact.y In 1982 she wrote a book with Alvin Moscow called ¨Every Secret Thing.¨ She was the third daughter of Randolph A. Hearst. She was born on February 20, 1954 and is currently 63. The SLA did not treat her like your normal hostage. But here i'm going to tell you about the SLA and Patty Hearst's kidnapping.

The Kidnapping
The year was 1974, on February fourth was when the 19 month sentence with the SLA began. Hearst was at her house along with her fiance´ when the abduction happened. Her fiance´ at the time was Steve Weed. Weed was assaulted with a wine bottle as the incident occurred. Little did Randolph Hearst know, he was about to have a pretty hefty ransom for his daughter's life.

But these tapes aren't about getting Hearst home, these are about Hearst's bad decisions. Hearst didnt leave like we thought she did. Turns out, she had other plans with the SLA… The SLA was sending out public video tapes, the tapes talked about the crimes they were committing together. In the next video released, Hearst was speaking. Heres what she had to say about the Bank Robbery ¨Greeting to the people. This is Tania. Our actions of April 15th forced the corporate State to help finance the revolution. As for being brain washed, the idea is ridiculous beyond belief. I am a soldier in the Peoples Army.¨ Hearst continued, ¨I have been given the choice to be released. OR joining the forces of the Symbionese Liberation Army and fighting for my freedom of all oppressed people. I have chosen to stay and fight,¨ Heres where her bad choices started to add up. One of the last tapes the SLA had released said the following, ¨DEATH TO THE FASCIST INSECT THAT PREYS UPON THE LIFE OF THE

    In this very extreme case of kidnapping sexual and physical abuse I truly do believe that Hearst could have been brainwashed by the SLA. Though this case is so unique and complex that it is difficult to compare to other cases and people. With the uniqueness of this case in mind I very much understand how such brutal abuse could lead to brainwashing and cause Stockholm syndrome.
