This, in turn, shows up in their own literary works. Since most of our literature comes from authors that are Christian or live in Christian nations, biblical allusions will often show up. For example, the short story "Araby" by James Joyce contains a perfect example of a biblical allusion. The story is about the loss of innocence of the narrator. In biblical terms, this can be referred to as the "fall". The allusion in the story that supports that statement is the placement of an apple tree in the middle of a garden where the narrator plays. One doesn 't have to read a page of the Bible to at least know the story of Adam and Eve and their loss of innocence after eating from the Fruit of Knowledge. Foster clearly supports this idea when he states that "Araby" is a "short little gem about the loss of innocence"
