America can be described in multiple ways. Being an American presents great pride by showing one's patriotism for the country, the freedom that was given by our soldiers, and all the different factors that make America the way it is today.
Being American, patriotism is an important factor in the country. Celebrating holidays like the 4th of July, memorial day, and Veterans day shows patriotism for our country. Being able to say or do what you want is a grand privilege. The Bill of Rights (46-47) have four freedoms that give us the right to do and speak what we want. The freedom of speech, the freedom of press, the freedom of religion, and the freedom of petition are all part of amendment one in The Bill of Rights (46-47). These freedoms define us as Americans. We follow the freedoms and we let them define us in a way where our behavior and thoughts are different to the next person because we have these freedoms. Personally, when I think of America, the first thing I think of is food. We have our hot dogs, burgers, and pizza, which may not be good for you but makes up in delicious taste, a true American meal. I also think that New York and the Statue of Liberty is as equally important, with the Statue of Liberty being the symbol of the American experience and its leadership in hope and peace. In the passage “Address on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty” by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he writes, “It was hope of those who gave us this statue and the hope of the American people in receiving it that the Goddess of Liberty and the Goddess of Peace were the same” (11). This means that the Statue of Liberty is an influential figure and takes means in the making of America. As we know, immigrants came to the country to find new beginnings. A tradition was to sail past the statue of liberty as a symbol that they finally made it. The statue gives hope to all those immigrants that things will be better from their old life. This symbol gave hope to millions of people who make up America right now.
