Patriot Student Handbook Analysis

William,
I like the way you laid out your classroom rules, along with the handbook rules from patriot high school. Your choices reflect big challenges to keeping the classroom on track. Students who tend to be lethargic, and apathetic need to know from day one, that sleeping through class won’t fly; additionally, remaining respectful is of utmost importance. I noticed that the Patriot Student Handbook uses a lot of language to cover the use of cellphones. This was the Case in the Newport News handbook, as well. This leads me to believe that phones have been a huge problem, in the past, and we will have plenty of trouble with them as well. As a private school teacher, I’ve had a few battles with cellphone use. The most notable of these, was

Many schools across the U.S are very strict on their ‘No phones in the classroom “ rule yet many students still sneak in their devices. Most parents and administrators think that the students use their phones in an inappropriate way but it is proven that more then 50% of students use them advisably. With that being said,I strongly disagree with your belief on cell phones. Cell phones have become an essential tool of life and communication with children being the majority…

Modelling Appropriate Behaviors: Cell Phone Etiquette Cell phones are an everyday part of life. We all have one and even some of our children have cell phones. With this increase availability of cell phones it is important that we model appropriate behavior in order for our children to pick up on appropriate behavior. There are many different approaches to cell phone etiquette, especially when it comes to dealing with preteens and teenagers. • Communication: If you believe that your child is responsible enough for a cell phone then you also believe they are responsible enough to communicate with you.…

Lenient Cell Phone Rules: In an effort to ease parents’ worries and let them know their children’s whereabouts, most schools have allowed students to have cell phones on campus. In case of an emergency, such as Columbine, students now have a way to communicate with their parents or law enforcement by using their cell phones. Before the Columbine shooting, few schools allowed cell phones to be carried on campus or used on school grounds, but this decision has also caused a great deal of disruptions in the classroom and has even given way to bomb threats and other school attacks. Rules should be introduced by involving students to identify examples of appropriate and inappropriate behavior so they can distinguish the need and purpose of rules, and the behavior they require. In addition, it’s necessary to explain to the students what will be done to help them abide by said rules, how proper behavior and adherence to rules will be supported, and what will be done when they break the rules. Over more, students should be assigned classroom chores, if possible. This gives students a sense of responsibility and ownership in the classroom. Furthermore, every class should begin with bell-work as soon as students enter the room.…

If my college professors and I were to switch places, things would be a whole a lot different. Most of the things I would change would mostly be the way the professor taught the class. Something things would be the same, like the things they teach. Teaching changes the further you go in your education. The higher grade you go, the harder your work and the stricter your teachers become.…

The students know the rules and the procedures are clear; this is important in a sixth grade classroom because many students behave like pre-adolescents and with the influence of peers, it’s easy to lose students in the classroom. One thing I had noticed with this classroom is that many students are beginning to create their ideas of what is ‘cool’ or ‘not-cool’, which can have an affect on how much they are willing to participate in class or activities. They begin to start to care what others, mostly their peers, think about them so if they are in a classroom that isn’t welcoming, students may hold back. I felt that Mr. Craner had great resources for students in the classroom to be independent and not have to ask him a bunch of questions. He doesn’t have any rules posted, mainly just things to encourage good behavior and to be…

These devices can make phone calls, send messages and browse the web and are important and necessary in our 21st century society. However, cell phone use has gone too far- especially in our education systems. While cell phones can have positive impacts inside the classroom for learning purposes, this piece of technology should be prohibited during school hours because students abuse this privilege and are misusing their smartphones which is harming their education and the wellbeing of themselves and others. A chronic issue surrounding cell phone use is cyberbullying through social media.…

During my walk-throughs this morning, I came and observed your classroom and noticed that a student was lying down on the lab table during instructional time. When students are sleeping in class, you are to redirect their behavior.…

Cell phones are great, but they just cause so many distractions in school. When students ask if they can look up something, they just gonna get on social media to look at how many likes they got on instagram or how many followers they have. Since we have been talking about cell phones as our writing unit, it made me think of so many reasons why we shouldn’t have cell phones in school. One example from an article called “ Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” says that the texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time is an incredible distraction, and it makes it harder for teachers to teach. Another example from the article” Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” is teachers will get kids saying “ I’ll look something up for English, and while I’m here let me quickly check my Instagram or Twitter feed’ From this article, these were some good reasons why schools shouldn’t allow cell phone usage in school.…
