The Patriot Act is unconstitutional because it violates the constitution and our human rights. The Patriot Act is an excuse to spy on us and catch other criminals that aren’t involved with terrorism. The law may have its benefits but it is hurting the community more than benefiting it. There have been many instances where the Patriot Act has proven to be harmful. For example, in June 2013, Edward Snowden leaked information that the NSA was spying on us; obviously the response was that they are looking for information related to terrorism. Between 2006 & 2009, the Patriot Act was used 1,618 times for drugs, 122 times for fraud, and only 15 times for terrorism. The Patriot Act is using terrorism as a front to spy on Americans and solve cases that don’t threaten lives. The Patriot Act hasn’t solved or prevented a single terrorist attack. Instead it has been used as a toy to solve crimes that local police should be solving. Although it is good to know that we have a overprotective government, they haven’t done anything.
