Both Kennedy and Henry expressed that they strongly believed in the importance of freedom in their speeches. In his Inaugural Address, Kennedy stated; “We dare not forget today that the we are the heirs of that first revolution” (Kennedy 2). This shows that the generations before the people of that time fought for their right to be free and that they need to uphold it and never take it for granted. In his speech to the Virginia Convention in 1775, Henry pushed for his fellow politicians to agree to go to war with Great Britain to finally break free and become independent. During the address Kennedy states; “Let both sides seek to invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors. Together let us explore the stars, conquer the deserts, eradicate disease, tap the ocean depths and encourage the arts of commerce.” (Kennedy 6) In this quote, Kennedy is saying that if everyone finds a way to come together as one nation they can achieve great things. In his proposal to the Virginia Conference, Henry shares a comparable point of view by explaining; “Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means by which the God of nature hath placed in our power.” (Henry 4) This means that if they use what they are capable of using, then they will be unstoppable and will succeed. Both of these excerpts essentially mean the same thing. If everyone works together towards a similar goal, then everyone will be that much more capable of being
