Patrick Combs Major In Success

The book Major in Success by Patrick Combs doesn’t teach the readers how to get excellent scores or how to participate in class, it basically focuses on advising the readers, specifically university freshmen and sophomores to obtain a successful life by selecting a declared major that fits their interest, career path and ambition. I would summarize the before and after difference before I had experience to study in the USA. I was touched by the chapter that talks about studying abroad as this chapter really represents me. The book also presents innovative strategies for tackling the six major fears that that most students face and suffer today and provide some useful ways to overcome and handle with those fears.

I found that those fears clearly outline the major problems of mine because I used to let fear controls over myself; and fear also stops me from moving forward. My biggest fear is the fear of what other people expect because I found that I am not that great and I need more but I could not find the right way to do so. I also have fear of watching other people success. It doesn’t mean I am mean but because I feel like I am so small and underrated myself when I see others talking about how meaningful and successful their life is. I was totally touched by the quote from Marcus Allen “Death will kill you once, but fear kills you over and over, if you let it.” If you escape from fear, fear will still exist and it follows you no matter what. He describes five ways to deal with those fears. Five prescriptions for fear are (1) feel the fear and do it anyway (2) Get support from friends who believe in you (3) Remember, you are equipped to handle anything that comes your way (4) Know that F.E.A.R is a false expectation about risk (5) Replace your fear with faith. Those are good advice and I particularly like the first one. You never know what will happen next unless you try it over and over in regardless of how many times and how much time you

Imagine this. You’re paralyzed, unable to do anything the way you want; unable to achieve new goals, to try new things, or to simply live your life the way you want to because you are restricted. Many times we have a similar reaction to fear. Fear can motivate us to an extent, if used correctly and in small amounts. But more often than not we let fear take over and control us, stopping us from doing what we actually want to achieve.…

I know my answer as soon as I hear that question and that’s why it would be easy to write an essay on. My number one fear is failure. Everywhere and everything I do, I always have a fear that I will fail of some sort in the back of my mind. Failure as in being unsuccessful and failure as in falling down. I can combine this with with pop culture tv series America’s Got Talent.…

A personal experience of fear that I have been through was on a spooky Halloween night. It was a cold and rainy October day when I arrived at my friend’s house for an annual Halloween party. Every year I was hesitant to go because I get scared every single time I go. I even tried to get out of it by faking sick but somehow, after persuasive talks by my friends and the weird allure of fear, I still managed to go every year.…

Out of all the fears in the world, the fear of growing up, living in the real world and experiencing mass amounts of failure has definitely taken the cake in my book. So many things come with growing up and becoming an adult, that it's just overwhelming to think about. For most younger kids this thought is more of a dream do to the fact that they don't know a life with responsibilities and adversity that constantly attempts at taking you down but your suppose to not let that happen, but will I be able to get back up when I am shot down, will I be able to make a family and find a job that is well and stable to support a family and most of all will the world that's already out there accept what I have to offer? These things are what scare me about, going to college, figuring out what I plan to do with my life, thinking about how am I gonna pay this bill, that bill, my car payments, mortgage, all problems that come with growing up, that I know I am not ready for now and don't know if I will be.…

The good news is that we can control our feeling, include fear. There are a bunch of ways to let us free. Fear, hope and genetics play key roles in our lives and are important elements in survival. Surviving, despite the suffering you may have been through, is what gives people hope., and hope It is what keeps people alive. They went through all of the suffering because they had hope they would one day be free.…
