To the household, where in society the man has to be the head of the household while the wife is at home cleaning and taking care of the kids. Also children take their fathers last name and women change their last name when they get married to a man. The biggest example of patriarchy is the wage gap, women get paid less than men, even though they do the same work. Thus this gender pay-gap goes straight into the category of sexism. In this patriarchal society that we live in, women are seen as inferior when compared to men. In Judith Lorber article "Night to His Day" she explains that "if men and women are doing the same task,...to maintain gender separation, often the tasks are given different job titles" (Lorber 58). I have never thought about the job titles that are given out until I read this part, and it is completely true. Pharr is right, women are called a lesbian when they go out of their way to make their lives better without needing a man. Sexism plays a role homophobia because homophobia is the dislike against homosexual people.
