Patriarchy And Stereotypes

Improved Essays
Men blame feminists for ignoring issues that affect men. Feminists just don’t understand that women already have all the power. Men are the oppressed group.

Little do they understand that it is not feminists causing their problems; it’s the patriarchy.

Patriarchy is a system where men and masculine bodies dominate because power and authority are in the hands of adult men. However, even though men are the main beneficiaries of patriarchy, both women and men are restricted by patriarchal ideals.

The patriarchy not only tells women how to behave, but it controls the actions and behaviors of men as well.

Men assert that they are more oppressed than women because male victims of sexual and domestic abuse are not likely to be taken seriously.

This essay will attempt to catalogue fear as it relates to social identity and power in male-female gender roles. Although Abagail Williams and the other young girls in The Crucible had un-expectantly soared to the heights of social dominance within a matter of hours, they had to constantly incite fear into subordinate members of Salem society in order to maintain control. These girls could secure an individual’s fate with one single word: witch. By employing this type of name-calling, these girls could have the entire town anxiously awaiting to hear which ill-fated individuals’s names would be called next. But just like any form of power on this Earth, their’s was not without its limits.…

In a society many people have different expectations for girls and boys, from weight to intelligence. Perspective three states, “As a whole, parents hold different standards for their kids based on gender, but it's not done consciously”. Society just has the assumption that girls need to be skinny because they are girls, and that guys should be smart because they are boys. This statement is more accurate than perspective one which talks about how parents worry about their daughters being overweight more than their sons because girls can be more cruel. This doesn't really give the reason for parents wanting their sons to be more smart.…

With the recent #metoo movement empowering women from all over to come out and share their stories of how they have been disrespected and treated so horribly and the Women’s March this past weekend I began thinking about feminism again. To be specific, feminism and men. These past few of years have been awesome ones for women and awesome for feminism. It is unfortunate that it requires such negative situations to finally allow women to be heard, but at least they are finally being heard loud and clear. With all this women empowerment though I believe some forget that not all men are the same, that not all of us are disgraces like those who caused the #metoo movement.…

It is 2017. In this modern day and age, there are few individuals who believe that women should not be viewed as equals to men. While there is not reams of active men in the feminist movement, Michael Kimmel points out that there is in fact “a growing number of profeminist men around the country,” (Kimmel 568, 2004). Men commonly do not understand feminism, but should those men who do be allowed to call themselves feminists? I agree with Kimmel when he answers no men cannot be feminists due to lack of experience and ever-present benefiting from systematic patriarchy, and should instead use the term pro-feminist.…

When someone says they are a feminist, people often think they hate men when in reality they do not. Many people who identify as a feminist do have anger and some hate towards men, however, that is not what true feminism stands for. Feminism is not about empowering women and putting men down, or turning a patriarchal society into a matriarchal one; it is about advocating for women’s rights to be equal to men. Even though it seems that a woman’s role in society has changed, it has not. In the 1960s when the women’s liberation movement began, the expectation was that a woman was a mother and took care of the home.…

In recent times saying the word “feminism” garners looks of disgust, tension, and even fear. It makes people uncomfortable and angry. What has caused a movement about equality to go down such an aggressive road like it is at today? The Bible has quite a bit to say about women and many interpret that as though women, or men for that matter, are not able to consider themselves feminists at all. It is not only possible, but it should be encouraged and celebrated when a woman of Christ celebrates equality.…
