The ideas of patriarchal dominance have stayed prevalent because traditions are hard to be broken. An example of a tradition that hasn’t been broken is that men have more power than women in our society. For example many leadership roles are occupied by men rather than women and the men that are in power may use to keep patriarchal dominance prevalent. Another tradition is that Traditional family values and gender roles such as the idea that women belong doing housework haven 't faded away. In the article “Snow White and Her Wicked Stepmother” it states “Finally,that at this point Snow White is a housekeeping angel in a tiny house conveys the story’s attitude toward a woman’s world and woman’s work”(Gilbert and Gubar 295). In Snow White, Snow is an embodiment of family values and gender roles. In the story Snow White conforms with the traditional gender roles by cooking and cleaning and is not looked down on in the story. The evil queen doesn’t conform with the traditional family values and she is seen as evil. This is the same with our society because even in modern times women that don’t agree with the traditional ways also are looked down upon. In the article “Patriarchal Norms Still Shape Family Care” it states “Many women are rightfully proud of fulfilling responsibilities for family care. At the Republican convention, Ann Romney spoke of the mothers holding our nation together.”(Folbre 1). This article shows that sometimes women are okay with the traditional gender roles.
