Patient Reflection

Improved Essays
On Thursday, October 26th, it was very disappointed not being able to assist to my last rotation at First Choice. For these last two rotation it was a very enriching experience to work with patient at this location. It was nice to feel what it is like to see a patient in a real life setting, where you do not have to report to the instructor continuously, and fill out all the paper work we have to do as student at Lincoln College of New England. From this experience I take the importance of always reviewing the patient’s information before siting him/her on the chair, and verifying with front desk what procedure the patient is allow to have. Also, I liked how the instructors where always there to guide us and teach us, and it was not stressful to treat our patients with the instructor’s and other students’ presence. …show more content…
I know the hard work the dental hygienists that work here are doing. They have to see a lot of patients in one day because the state insurance does not pay a lot for a prophy. To compensate for this and still be productive, they have to work on a tight schedule and sometime patients are double booked. However, it is possible that these dental hygienist have acquired the skill to narrow the OHI to what they know is best to their

The best interpretation of a dental hygienist that I can conceive is a professional whose main job is to teach their clients the essential oral hygiene skills and provide dental care in order for the client to maintain their overall oral health. Among the various responsibilities performed for the client to insure their health and safety includes making sure, we, as dental hygienists first do not harm to the patient by contaminating with pathogens that could have easily been disposed of by simply following the standard rules of infection control. As stated by Ester Wilkins “Dental healthcare personnel have a professional obligation to serve all patients with comprehensive oral care, including patients with known or unknown communicable diseases.…

This clinic provides comprehensive dental services in all areas of general dentistry. While this clinic provides dental services to the general community, the hospital-based clinic allows clinicians to coordinate dental care to those patients with more complex medical conditions. This opportunity was very beneficial to my clinical growth for various reasons. This rotation was my first time providing services outside of the Tennessee StateUniversity clinic.…

I picked the Quick family Urgent Care because I used to live around the area and this is a clinic that my family and friends always attended, so you can say we are pretty familiar with this clinic and the people that work there. I felt comfortable when contacting the office manager, Diana Sood but before I remembered this clinic existed, I remember finding myself thinking throughout this semester, as to who I can contact, to learn more information about being in the healthcare field, no one really seemed to stand out and it was actually kind of a nerve wrecking experience thinking that I would have to talk to someone in such a high standing position, but eventually it came to mind that talking to these professionals aren’t as intimidating as I may think and luckily, I’ve been in many hospitals and medical offices before.…

Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it.…
