Week Eight
NURS6551, N-6 As advanced practice nurses (APN) and primary providers, we must ensure that our pregnant patients have the necessary information for the most optimal pregnancy. Therefore, one must individualize the educational material to suit the patient population they serve. This week I will evaluate the type of media that is most appropriate for the women I serve and discuss the topic of primary focus and why this is the most suitable education media and topic for my pregnant female population.

As the patient opens the first trifold a list of the necessary dietary intake for foods; such as six to 11 servings of grains and bread, two to four servings of fruits, four or more servings of vegetables, and three servings of protein. Next to the servings a list of several choices for each. However, healthy eating and proper physical activity are particularly useful for the pregnant woman. A lot of people do not have access to the internet. Therefore, a pamphlet is a simple, accessible form of educational media. In today’s fast-paced world of the internet and electronics, I still feel that a simple piece of paper is adequate media for patient education.
