Patient Discharge Research Paper

When discharging a patient, every counselor has feelings regarding the discharge either negative or positive due to the fact that counselors are human. These feelings are often based upon the interactions, reactions, etc. that have occurred during treatment. However, the feelings may also be a product of countertransference. When patients leave, the comments they leave the counselors with may trigger personal feelings. Whether it be words of inadequate counseling or kudos for a job well done, the patient’s discharge can produce feelings of countertransference (Gromen, 2010).
