REFLECTIONS
Hospitals have moved to having a standard of patient centered care. Objective six is to demonstrate professional values in all collaborative partnerships to foster advocacy and professional accountability. According to the Essentials for Baccalaureate Education, health professionals are encouraged to deliver patient centered care as members of an interprofessional team, emphasizing communication, evidence based practice, quality improvement approaches, and informatics. It mentions the need to have interactive educational activities involving two or more professions that foster collaboration to improve patient care. Objective six meets the criteria for Essential VI: Interprofessional Communication and Collaboration for Improving Patient Health Outcomes. Patient advocacy is important in hospitals because patients who are likely to be more satisfied when they receive patient advocacy from healthcare professionals. Patient

It is necessary to be committed to lifelong learning because health care is continuously changing. With the more changing to come it is essential that nurses stay up to date with the best practices. According to the Oncology Nursing society, nursing is a profession that is called to lead change and there is a need to learn until the end of one’s career. Learning comes in different forms undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, formal, informal, and self-study (Society, 2012). Many healthcare facilities that hold magnet status encourage professional development and require multiple online learning classes to completed yearly. This semester the last assignment required short-term and long-term personal goals, educational goals, and financial goals.
