Three Important Patient Care Technologies As stated previously, technology contributes to safe patient care, nursing education and communication between interdisciplinary teams. One highly important technology in patient care is electronic medical records and documentation. One research study concluded that between 30 and 50 percent of physicians in the study reported that electronic medical record use was associated with clinical benefits related to providing recommended care, ordering appropriate tests, and facilitating patient communication (King J., Patel V., Jamoom E., & Furukawa M., 2014).
