A couple years ago while working on a telemetry floor as a unit secretary, I came across a patient’s chart who had orders to be NPO after midnight for an EGD procedure the next day. As a part of my job, I made sure to input "NPO" orders into the computer. The very next day after the patient’s procedure was over she came back to the unit with new orders, but dietary orders were missing. The patient calls the nursing station stating that she was very hungry. I asked the assigned nurse to call her doctor to obtain orders for her diet. The nurse told me “I am very busy I will call later”. After an hour or so I reminded the assigned nurse again to call for a diet order and she ignored me. As a unit
