Pathway To The Baccalaureate Program

Improved Essays
You should consider me to take part in the Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program for the reason that it would dramatically improve my chance at succeeding in my future career objectives. My primary motivation that led me to seek out this program originated from my desire to receive a bachelor’s degree, something that neither of my parents have obtained. The Pathway Program appealed to me as it would provide a counselor that would help me outline the steps I would need to take to reach my academic goals. The Pathway Program would help me attain my academic goals by easing my transition between high school, NOVA, and then finally to a four-year university. Additionally, the Pathway Program would give me suggestions on the colleges I am eligible for, which would help remove the stress that I would otherwise accumulate from applying to colleges without any assistance from others.

During my sophomore year as an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina, I was accepted into the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. I do not exaggerate when I say that this program changed the entire course of my life: helping me to fully understand my interests, altering my professional goals, and providing me with a viable path for my passions. As a first generation student, I had very little knowledge about how to navigate the sphere of undergraduate education and in the same vein, I knew next to nothing about graduate school. Before McNair I was never aware of what graduate school could offer me and the program, and the people it connected me with, became my greatest source of support as I made the journey into pursuing my doctorate.…

I studied extremely hard the entire semester and was determined to get the best grades possible. I also decided to work toward receiving a minor in health psychology because I loved the class so much. In another one of my classes, we learned about different health field careers in order to decide if nursing was right for us since it is such a competitive major at IUPUI.…

At an early age, I didn’t understand the concept of an immigrant family and that our resources were very limited. It wasn’t until I got older, that I finally understood and recognized the struggle that my family went and still continues to go through. My realization began when I was about 11-years old and I noticed that my father not only worked for his own small gardening service, but that he also took my older brothers to work with him. I knew it was a time for serious measures because my brothers started helping my father when they were close to my age, and they continued throughout their whole school years. Everything was going normal in my family then, we rented a house that was in the name of my aunt, had enough money for the bills,…
