September 26th held the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. This debate is comprised of three topics, achieving prosperity, America’s direction, and securing America. The overall goal of this debate is to attract voters to a specific candidate, and in November elect our next president. The two candidates must use modes of persuasion to effectively endear this years voters. These persuasion tactics are known as logos which appeals to logic, pathos that appeals to emotion, and ethos that is a means of convincing someone of the creditability of the persuader. Being Secretary of State has helped Clinton thought out this debate in ways that Donald Trump cannot compare to. Clinton states that in her time of office she “increased American exports globally thirty percent,” and “get exports that help to create more new jobs” appealing to voters sense of reason. Clinton also goes on a discourse about how her tax plan has been approved by many people that it will be effective and successful. Antithetically, Trump made numerous statements about NAFTA that did not help or hurt his previous claims. Trumps extraneous statements, and Clintons credible and logic claims is why Clinton excelled in the logos section of this debate.
