Pathophysiology Of Impetigo

Impetigo is a contagious childhood skin disease (Lawton, 2014). It is commonly diagnosed in children from two to five years old (Hartman-Adams, Banvard, & Juckett, 2014). Impetigo can present in two forms; bullous and non-bullous (Watkins, 2013). Both forms may appear at the same time (Watkins, 2013). Transmission can occur through direct or indirect contact (Lawton, 2014). Treatment may involve topic or oral antibiotics if skin cleansing alone does not resolve the disease (Watkins, 2013).
