Forgiveness is vital in a person’s life. In the Bible, we can find different passages in which God teaches us how to forgive others. Right in the beginning of the Bible we find Adam and Eve who turn away from God, however he does not put them to death, but sends them out of the paradise. Then Cain kills his brother Abel. God does not allow anyone to kill Cain, but he puts a mark on him to protect him. Then in Exodus, we find the people of Israel who often turns away from God. At some point, God allows some people to die, but most times, he forgives them by the intercession of Moses. Later in the Old Testament, the prophets are the messengers of God who invites his people to repent. They obtain forgiveness from God. Finally, the book of Psalms has many references to God as kind and merciful with his people.
In the New Testament, we find so many other references to God’s forgiveness. The perfect example is Jesus who asks us to forgive seventy times seven. He himself gets involved in passages about forgiveness. For instance, the paralytic man, the adulterer woman, the prodigal son, and many other texts. He also teaches us to forgive by giving himself on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and our salvation from eternal death. In M14, I highlight the fact that he recovered himself and his children. It is the image of the shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep and go to find the one who is lost, and he finds it, his joy is greater. In this case, Henry recovered his children, his joy is greater, and he feels more complete. God was the one who moved Henry to do that. God was his example to do so.
