Breast cancer is a condition that does not discriminate and therefore runs across all cultural walls. However, the effects of a breast cancer diagnosis among different group have different end-results. For example, the American Cancer Society (ACS[2014]) concluded that despite the higher incidence of breast cancer mortality among Caucasian women, the mortality rate in the black community remains higher than that of their counterparts. Breast cancer is a condition that can be treated if detected earlier, and therefore Nurse Practitioners (NPs) have a responsibility to contribute to early screening especially that of African-Americans to help decrease the disparity in the 5 year survival rate. There is no further need to prove that there is such…

Nurses, as well as scientists, apply their understanding of pathophysiology every day and every time they come in contact with a patient or a disease. According to WiseGeek (2015), an informative online publication, pathophysiology is defined as the study of functional changes in the body that occur in response to a disease or injury ("What Is Pathophysiology?," n.d.). By possessing a deep understanding of disease progression and manifestation, medical professionals and the scientific community, will be able to identify diseases, and tailor specific treatment protocols for suffering patients ("Pathophysiology," n.d.). · Describe two (2) essential skills that are necessary for the associate degree nurse of the future to provide safe patient care. Critical thinking and therapeutic relationship skills are necessary to provide safe patient care. Critical thinking is the basis for clinical judgment used by nurses in making decisions about client care and is a key part of the nursing licensure examination (Catalano, 2015, p. 78). I use critical thinking every day as an LPN, during direct patient care, patient teaching, and during patient discharge. If you think about it, we all use critical thinking every day in one setting or another.…

The nursing process is a critical thinking model used to promote a competent level of care, encompasses all significant actions taken by registered nurses and forms the foundation for decision making (American Nurses Association standards [ANA] 2010). The nursing process promotes a safe effective reasoning. It organizes and prioritize patients care, it is humanistic; guides the nurse to focus holistically on the body, mind and soul. Evidence-based; mandates that judgement, decisions and actions be based on best evidence. Intuitive and logical; encourages the nurse to acknowledge patterns and intuitive hunches, then look for evidence that support the hunches.…

Journal article that utilizes nursing theory to guide APN practice The nursing model I chose to examine for this assignment is Neuman’s system theory. Neuman’s system theory is based on the interaction of the four metaparadigms of the person, environment, health and nursing and well as the interconnection between spirit and mind. The two major components of the model are stress and systematic feedback loops (Butts & Rich, 2018). The nursing goal is to attain stability in the patient’s systems.…

As we have learned throughout this quarter, theory is significant to our practice. The gap can close with a complementary relationship between nursing theory, nursing science, and nursing practice (McEwen & Wills, 2014). White (2011) suggests in order to narrow the gap we need nurse champions who are excellent practitioners and passionate about improving quality of care. They will lead by example and take on the task of bringing and adopting evidence and best practices into the work place. Another important way to assist with the practice gap is to implement the theories into one’s daily practice.…

From analysis of tutor and preceptor feedback over the past 3 years of clinical practice, I had gained various positive and constructive responses that I often reflect on. I believe my areas of strengths as a student nurse transitioning into an RN is the ability to stay organized, ability to respond to feedback in a constructive manner, and confidence in my nursing skills and assessments. While these are all important aspects of nursing, the requirement to think critically by linking the patients sign and symptoms to their diagnosis is essential, which is my main area of growth. If I continue to work on the aptitude to think critically, my nursing skills and assessment abilities and results would be enhanced. Both my areas of strength and area…

While reviewing the RWJF report, the Care Model Process really stood out to me. As a result of Health Partners hiring nurse practitioners in addition to physicians and physicians assistants, this model was developed. This model was developed to ensure quality care is delivered as a result of nurses roles transforming and expanding. This model was developed from a very popular and well-respected model called the Wagner Chronic Care Model (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2012). To facilitate appointments and ensure the physician has lab results and test results during the scheduled appointment, nurses have the opportunity under this model to review patients recent lab and test results and order additional lab work prior the physician seeing…

Clinical Theory Practice of the 21st Century Situation Specific theory According to the clinical nursing practice of the 21st century, I believe that nurses require situation specific theories that are based on the theory, research and practice to provide the ultimate holistic care to the patients and their families. This does not mean that we should disregard grand or mid-range theories. Actually, we should begin our research with grand theories that were developed on the bases of nature, mission, and goals of nursing. In addition to grand theories, nurses should review the mid-range theories that are less abstract, less generalized and address specific concept to create a situation-specific theory for an individual patient, or certain…
