BBC 2014 was defined pathogens are microorganisms that cause diseases to human body. There are four main types of microorganisms that are bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa.

Type of Pathogenic Microorgnism Description
Bacteria Bacteria is living cells than grow rapidly.

Bacteria can release poisons or toxins once inside the human body which cause human feel ill.

The following is common diseases caused by bacteria:
- cholera
- food poisoning
- typhoid
- cough
Fungi Fungi can easily be seen with the naked eye, such as Mushrooms, toadstools and bread mould.

The following is common diseases caused by fungi:
- Skin Inflammation And Damage (Athlestes Foot)
- Ringworm,
- Oral And Vaginal Thrush

Protozoa Protozoa are large, single-celled organinsms.

The protozoa that cause parasitic infections in humans are usually in the size range of 1-100 micrometres (millionths of a metre) and have two stages in their life cycle.

The following is common diseases caused by protozoa include:
- Malaria
- Dysentery
- Sleeping sickness.

In Figure 2.10 of OUM Modul Topic 2: Food Hygiene was shown the flowchart of disseminastion of pathogen microorganism. Infection Dissemination Method/ Contamination
Vibrio choleraeO1 Raw shellfish consumption or raw seafood or cooked crab
Vibrio parahaemolyticus Raw seafood consumption with high high ambient temperature.
Vibrio vulnificus Consume raw shellfish or who are subject to contamination of open wounds by seawater.i.e. Raw oyster.

In addition, people with open wounds can be exposed to V. vulnificus through direct contact with seawater.
Vibrio fluvialis Consumption of raw or undercooked seafood, especially raw oysters.

Human are also expose to the bacteria through the faeces contamination from the marine environment, either the source of contamination is from human faeces from sewage discharges, boats and ships or direct defaecation into the marine environment or rivers and streams flowing into it. Example of bacteria associated from human faecal is Salmonella Typhi and Vibrio cholerae. Besides, animal faecal also caused the contamination, example of bacteria associated with animal faecal is non-typhi Salmonella and
