Growing up I always wanted to be in a career that would make a significant difference, it wasn't until 10th grade where I saw an article on pathology and it was then that I knew this would be the career for me. Pathology can be defined as “a branch of medical science primarily concerning the cause, origin and nature of disease. It involves the examination of tissues, organs, bodily fluids and autopsies in order to study and diagnose disease” (Sally Robertson). The work that this career does is so very important to all of the human race without their research whos to say that an outbreak of a disease couldn't have wiped out the human race population. Pathologist due the hard work behind the scenes.as a patholgist i will be studying diseases and how they affect the body, as well as identifying diseases and consulting with the patients doctors and surgeons what the best treatment route will be. Pathologist specialize in creating and adapting medical plans that will ensure the patient heals and the path a patient must go to beat the disease that is crippling them. A Pathologist day starts off with them observing sickness in tissues, writing down any abnormalities. They then have to diagnose the disease that is present then create a course of action to treat the disease. After this is done a meeting will be held for about two hours where the pathologist meet with the patients doctors and surgeon to review the sickness and together they agree on a course of action.a pathologist has three jobs which include meetings, case reviewing, and diagnostics (Lishman …show more content…
To become a pathologist one must earn a bachelor's degree with a high gpa, have volunteer hours,internships, or work experience in the medical field, as well as pass the MCAT, earn a medical degree then complete residency training and lastly become certified by the board of pathologist (Become a Clinical Pathologist). In college for someone who wants to be a pathologist they must major in a biology, public health,or chemistry type of major as well as earn a 3.5 cumulative gpa if they wish to get into med school. In med school students will figure out where they want to be in the medical school by choosing certain electives. After completing 4-5 years of med school a student will then begin their residency program wherever they see fit. In residency the student is training in the specific field they want to be in. for a pathologist residency last about 4 years. In those 4 years they are treated a if they were a doctor, they observe infected tissues and record data,they make slides, and consult with other doctors to verify the illness. On average it takes about 13 years to become a certified pathologist, and at most 170,000 dollars in debt if i do not receive a full ride scholarship which i plan to do, if you do not receive the scholarship it will cost about 250,000 dollars to become a
