Patetic Argument Analysis: Today's Transportation

People travel great distances, sometimes forgetting about those they had known for so long. In his excerpt, Patetic argues that today’s transportation leads to poor relationships between family and friends. Patetic supports his argument by first stating that many family members no longer live within a close proximity to each other. He continues by explaining that people lose contact with each other when one moves away. Patetic’s argument is that people should remain within a decent proximity to each other in order to have a sense of community. Patetic creates a sense of longing for people who have moved who have not kept good a communication with others and for people who plan to move away from their current location. Today’s transportation should not be used as the main cause for poor relationships between family and friends. People will argue that moving away creates a lack of community among family and friends. Patetic states within his excerpt, “As a result, we tend to lack the close, supportive relationships that people in former generations enjoyed.” Since people move from place to place, they don’t create the connection with others that forms a community. My grandfather lives within the midwestern region of the United States, rarely having conversations with him. However, when we talk, I enjoy the time I spend talking to him. The issue of distance resulting in poor relationships is also disproved by the growing network of social media.
